The Conscious Self Limited
Sauna & Contrast Therapy Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 10 November 2025
Company: The Conscious Self Limited (“we”, “us”, “our”)
Applies to: All heat and cold-exposure activities delivered by The Conscious Self Limited, including mobile and wild saunas, tent or horsebox saunas, cold-immersion tubs, open-water dips where offered, and any related practices (“Session(s)”).
1) Acceptance of these Terms
By booking, attending, or participating in any Session, you confirm you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and Conditions. If you book for others, you confirm you have authority to accept these Terms on their behalf and that each participant meets the eligibility requirements.
2) Eligibility and Health
Sauna and cold exposure place stress on the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Participation may be unsuitable if you have, or are recovering from, any of the following: unstable heart disease, recent heart attack, uncontrolled high or very low blood pressure, significant arrhythmia, syncope history, severe respiratory disease including unstable asthma or COPD, fever or active infection, open wounds or contagious skin conditions, untreated thyroid issues, poorly controlled diabetes, active migraine triggered by heat, epilepsy with ongoing seizures, or if you are intoxicated or under the influence of substances or medications that impair sweating, thermoregulation, or alertness.
If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, heat exposure can increase the risk of overheating, dehydration, and fainting. Avoid or modify participation after medical advice. If in doubt, consult a healthcare professional before taking part.
3) Participant Responsibilities
- You confirm you are fit to participate or have obtained appropriate medical clearance.
- You will follow all briefings and instructions. Leave the heat or cold immediately if you feel unwell, light-headed, nauseous, confused, panicky, or develop chest pain.
- Do not participate while ill, febrile, or if you have a contagious disease, open wounds, or new piercings.
- Do not use alcohol or recreational drugs before or during Sessions. Disclose relevant medications if asked.
4) Sauna Safety Rules
- Sessions run in short, controlled rounds. As a guide, most people benefit from 5 to 15 minutes per heat round, followed by equal or longer cool-down and hydration. New users should start shorter. Never exceed your limits.
- Hydrate before, between, and after rounds. Cool down gradually. Avoid sudden standing. Take care on steps and wet surfaces.
- Sit on a towel for hygiene. Keep swimwear on. Keep the door closed. Do not touch the stove, rocks, flue, or guards. Only staff add water to the heater. Do not place essential oils or any flammable liquids on stoves or rocks.
- Children and minors are only permitted where explicitly stated, with guardian supervision and staff approval. Temperatures and times will be modified.
5) Cold Exposure and Contrast Therapy (optional)
- Enter cold water slowly and under instruction. Sudden immersion can trigger an involuntary gasp, rapid breathing, a spike in heart rate and blood pressure, and panic.
- Do not hyperventilate or perform breath-holds in or near water. The risk of shallow-water blackout is serious.
- Limit exposure time. Exit before numbness or clumsiness. Re-warm gradually. Afterdrop can occur after exit, so dry off, layer up, move to shelter, and sip a warm drink.
- People with heart conditions, asthma, Raynaud’s, or other conditions affecting breathing or circulation should obtain medical advice before cold immersion.
- Open-water dips, where offered, are subject to site-specific briefings and may be cancelled due to conditions, access, or safety.
6) Hygiene, Changing, Travel and Site Access
- Wild sites and approach: Access to our wild or mobile sauna locations is typically via public rights of way and natural terrain. Route choice, timings, and transport are your responsibility. You attend and depart at your own risk.
- No liability for travel or parking: We do not provide transport and are not liable for incidents, delays, cancellations, fines, towing, vehicle damage, collisions, theft from vehicles, or injuries sustained en route to or from the Session, whether on public highways, rights of way, private tracks, or car parks.
- Guidance only: Any pins, directions, or access notes we share are guidance only. Conditions change. You remain responsible for checking access, closures, and diversions on the day.
- Terrain: Paths, decks, steps, banks, and water margins may be uneven, wet, icy, muddy, or slippery. Terrain and weather conditions are not our responsibility. Wear suitable footwear and take care at all times.
- Hygiene: Follow staff guidance on queuing, changing, and equipment use. We may set capacity limits inside the sauna. Please shower beforehand where facilities exist. Lotions, oils, and fake tan can damage benches and heaters.
7) Conduct and Right to Refuse
We may refuse entry, remove, or stop participation without refund if you ignore instructions, act unsafely, endanger others, are disruptive or abusive, are intoxicated, or are unfit to participate.
8) Personal Property
You are responsible for your belongings at all times. We are not liable for loss, theft, or damage to personal property, including in changing areas or vehicles.
9) Emergencies and First Aid
We may pause or stop Sessions for safety, initiate first aid, and contact emergency services if required. You consent to us sharing necessary information with responders in an emergency.
10) Liability
You acknowledge that heat and cold exposure carry inherent risks, including dehydration, burns, fainting, heat exhaustion, heatstroke, cold shock response, hypothermia, slips and falls, illness, and psychological stress.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release The Conscious Self Limited, its directors, officers, employees, volunteers, contractors, and agents from claims arising from your participation, including travel to and from the Session, except where the law prevents exclusion or limitation. For clarity, we are not liable for weather, terrain, or access conditions at or around the site, nor for your travel or transport arrangements, nor for any consequential costs arising from delays, changes, or cancellations.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
11) Cancellations, Transfers, Weather and Force Majeure
- Weather: Sessions run in most weather. Outdoor conditions are variable and may be cold, wet, hot, windy, or otherwise uncomfortable. You are responsible for bringing suitable clothing and equipment. Participation in adverse conditions is at your discretion.
- Operational changes: We may modify schedules, locations, or activities, or pause or stop elements, including open-water dips, where we judge conditions unsafe or unsuitable. Examples include storm, flood, ice, high winds, extreme heat, poor water quality, or access issues.
- Force majeure: We are not liable for delay, modification, or cancellation caused by events beyond our reasonable control. Examples include severe weather, road closures, strikes, utility failure, disease outbreak, acts of authority, or landowner direction.
- Costs we do not cover: We are not responsible for consequential costs such as travel, accommodation, parking, or other expenses you incur due to weather, terrain, access changes, or cancellations. Our responsibility is limited to the remedies stated on the event or listing, such as transfer, credit, or refund per the stated policy.
- Your cancellations and transfers: Participant cancellation, transfer, and refund windows are set out on the event or listing and apply in addition to these Terms.
12) Data and Privacy
We process personal data in line with our Privacy Notice to administer bookings, manage safety, and, where you consent, provide updates. You can opt out of marketing at any time.
13) Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
