The Venue
Brinkburn Northumberland is a hidden riverside estate tucked in a quiet wooded ravine on the River Coquet. Old stone buildings, a 12th-century priory and light-filled cottages sit together in one intimate pocket of land, so the whole group can live, practise and eat within the same landscape – no scattering, no distractions, just a held space to drop in.
The cottages are warm and comfortable with shared kitchens and cosy living areas for meals, tea, and late-night conversations. Step outside and you’re straight into woodland paths, open lawns and the riverbank – places to walk in silence, sit with birdsong or simply watch the water move. Nature here isn’t a backdrop; it’s the main teacher.
For practice, Brinkburn offers flexible indoor and outdoor wellness spaces: a beautiful barn and calm rooms that become studios for yoga, breathwork, sound and shared circles, opening out onto riverside lawns and clearings under the trees. We move between them with intention – indoors for depth and focus, outdoors for integration, grounding and contact with the elements.
The land itself carries a long story of devotion and gathering. For centuries people have come here for ritual, reflection and renewal. Hosting a retreat at Brinkburn with The Conscious Self is a continuation of that lineage: a chance to remember our place in nature, slow the nervous system, and reconnect to something older, quieter and very much alive.
